Use a Computer

The library has public computers with Internet access. This describes what we have and how to use them.

How many computers does the library have?

Our library now has 8 public computer work stations.  Two are iMacs and the rest are PCs.  In addition to these work stations, we also have four laptop computers, 2 netbooks, and an iPad that patrons may sign up to use.  All of these have internet access.

What software is available on the computers?

In addition to internet access, there is a wide variety of software on our computers.  Most frequently used are our Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Publisher.

May I print from the library computers?

Yes, our work stations are programmed to print using the printer behind the circulation desk.  Please note, printing is not available from our laptops.  You may print up to ten black-and-white pages per day for free.  After your first ten pages, there is a $0.10 charge for each additional black-and-white page printed.  All pages printed in color cost $1.00 each.  To avoid unwanted color copies, please switch your printing preferences to gray scale.  If you need assistance switching to gray scale, feel free to ask our staff.  When you are finished printing, you may pick up and pay for your copies at the circulation desk.

Are there limits on how much time I may use a computer?

In general, there is a one-hour limit per day.  When you sign up, we will ask you to indicate whether you would like to use the computer for a 30-minute or an hour-long session.  You do not have to use the entire amount of time you sign up for, but we ask that you do not go over the amount of time you requested.

How do I sign up to use a computer?

The first time you use a computer at our library you will need to read through our Internet Use Policy.  Copies are available at the circulation desk.  Whenever you want to use a computer from that point on, ask a staff member at the circulation desk to sign you up.  We will ask you for your signature and how much time you would like to use the computer that day.

Are there age limits on who may use a computer?

Patrons who are seventeen or younger must have parental permission to use the library computers.  Parents need to read through our Internet Use Policy with their child(ren) and then sign a permission slip which we will keep on file.  Our young computer-users must also sign this slip to show that they understand the responsibilities of using the library computers.

Does the library have wireless internet access?

Yes, we have WiFi in our building.  Feel free to bring your own laptop.  Just stop by the circulation desk and ask our staff about the password you will need in order to access our wireless internet.
